While several University of Florida programs and departments offer film and video instruction, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides two ways to major in Film and Media Studies.
1.
English Department Film and Media Studies Track
The Department of English offers a Film and Media Studies track leading to a B.A. in English. Students pursuing this route will take courses in film theory and history, while also being encouraged to enroll in the Department's two undergraduate film and video production classes. To review this track's requirements, faculty, and production offerings, see the highlighted links.
Students pursuing this option may choose to complete a four-credit-hour honors thesis that can be either an essay, script, short film or video, or work in a related medium.

2.
IDS (Interdisciplinary) Film and Media Studies Major
The Interdisciplinary B.A. in Film and Media Studies enables undergraduates to create their own curricula by choosing from an approved list of courses offered by nine different departments:
- African and Asian Languages
- Anthropology
- Architecture
- Art
- Education
- English
- German and Slavic Languages and Literatures
- Romance Languages and Literatures
- Theatre
These courses provide a range of training from professional and applied to historical and experimental. The IDS major encourages students to integrate these offerings by combinging theory and production.
The IDS Film and Media Studies major is an honors program. The major is selective, requiring (1) at least a 3.0 GPA, (2) two sponsors, chosen from the list of approved faculty, and (3) an application to the CLAS IDS committee.
Students in the IDS program produce a Senior Thesis, a seven-credit-hour project that can be either an essay, a film script, a short film or video, or work in a related medium.
